Why We Built the Tax Calculator

Taxes can be surprisingly complex. Most free calculators miss important exemptions and rules, which often leads to inaccurate estimates. That’s why we built the PurpleLedger Personal Income Tax Calculator: a free, comprehensive tool designed to give you a more accurate picture of what you would actually owe.

Our calculator handles details that many others overlook. For example, proceeds from selling up to two personal-use vehicles per year are typically exempt from tax, and our calculator accounts for that automatically. It also incorporates withholding taxes and several other provisions that affect your final assessment.

A quick note:
at the moment, the calculator does not include tax calculations on profit from share sales, since these require detailed bookkeeping records. This will be supported in an upcoming release of our full bookkeeping application.
